Game-Changer for T-Chowk: CDA Approves Rs 1.4B Flyover
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved the much-awaited IBM Flyover at T-Chowk, a Rs 1.4 billion mega project designed to end the daily traffic nightmare at one of Islamabad’s busiest entry points.
The flyover, to be built by Habib Construction Services (HCS) in joint venture with ZKB, is slated for completion in just three months — with a grand inauguration planned for December 2025 by the Prime Minister.
Why it matters
T-Chowk is the gateway for thousands of commuters traveling between Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore via GT Road and the Islamabad Expressway. Current congestion causes massive delays every day. Once complete, the 570-meter-long flyover and its dedicated slip road toward Lahore will allow over 100,000 vehicles daily to flow smoothly without the usual gridlocks.
Project Highlights
Cost: Rs 1.4 billion
Length: 570 meters on GT Road
Extra Feature: Slip road connecting Expressway to Lahore traffic
Timeline: 3 months (vs. PC-1’s 5 months)
Contractor: HCS & ZKB joint venture
Impact: Over 100,000 commuters to benefit daily
CDA officials say the IBM Flyover is part of their broader push to make the Islamabad Expressway a signal-free corridor, alongside other projects like the Rs 1.3 billion Shaheen Chowk underpass.
If CDA sticks to its ambitious timeline, December 2025 could mark a turning point for Islamabad’s traffic woes, promising commuters faster, stress-free travel across the twin cities and beyond.
