Punjab Govt Approves Rs. 6 Billion for Three Underpasses on Peshawar Road

The Punjab government has approved the construction of three new underpasses along Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi, at a cost of Rs6 billion. The project aims to create a signal-free corridor from Katcheri Chowk to Motorway Chowk, easing one of the city’s worst traffic bottlenecks.

Underpasses will be built at Race Course Park (Rs2.6bn), Army Graveyard (Rs1.9bn), and Chairing Cross (Rs1.5bn). Work is set to begin next month once bidding and utility shifting are complete. A dedicated services corridor from Saddar to Pirwadhai Mor will also be developed to house pipelines, cables, and wires, reducing the need for repeated road digging.

Officials expect the projects to cut travel time between Katcheri and Motorway Chowk to just 20 minutes. Other long-awaited projects — including the Katcheri Chowk flyover, Jinnah Park underpass, and Ammar Chowk flyover — are also being expedited.
