Govt Mulls New Taxes to Fund Jinnah Medical Complex in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD – The federal government is considering imposing new local taxes in the capital to fund the upcoming Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre at H-16, one of the region’s largest healthcare projects.
Sources say the proposed levies may target junk food, cigarettes, and other unhealthy items to both raise revenue and promote healthier lifestyles.
The mega project, worth Rs. 212 billion, will be built in two phases: a Rs. 75 billion hospital in Phase I, followed by a medical college and research facilities. Over 600 kanals of land have been allocated, and a Turkish-Pakistani JV consultant has been cleared to finalize the design and bidding process.
